Political temperatures in the country have risen considerably. Tribal chiefs have come out with both barrels blazing and each region is now strategizing on how best to come out ahead of the other.
So where does Kenya feature in all this? Stupid question you ask. Kenya features nowhere. You think Kenya is more important that individual tribal and regional interests? You must be out of your mind.
The Luhya community (all legislators from Western province) had a meeting yesterday where they announced that they will only support ODM if Musalia "Goldenberg" Mudavadi is declared the party's presidential candidate. They emphasized that any other candidate being selected would force the community to reconsider its' options. We all know who the ODM presidential candidate is don't we. One Raila Amollo Odinga, who by the way is yet to reply to Kiunjuri's accusations in parliament about oil deals and missing files.

The pronouncement by the Luhya community is interesting because as I have said here before, o such community exists and this is why the much-hyped Luyha unity will never happened. What we have here is an administrative bloc created by the colonial government that is a collection of numerous different tribes many of who are too different from each other to even speak in a language that the other understands.
Rift Valley MPs also had their meeting where all the warring factions came together two days ago. William "YK92" Ruto sat on the same table as Nicholas "Ouko murder suspect" Biwott. Biwott has been quoted as saying in the recent past that the community will do everything to ensure that they are a part of the next government. Incidentally everybody is assuming that Kanu will support President Kibaki, but I have this feeling that they will swing a nasty surprise for the incumbent.
The Kamba community does not need a meeting for all to see the direction they are headed under the leadership of one Kalonzo Musyoka. Neither do the Kikuyu or Luo communities need to meet for political analysts to know what is going on.
Yes, the tribal chiefs are circling like vultures watching and waiting as a man breathes his last. Only divine intervention can save Kenya from these vultures or hyenas—if you are a fan of Gado's cartoons.
