Spying On Behalf Of Kibaki Campaign Goes Overboard

If it is true that the incumbent is NOT a tribalist and is in fact a democrat, why is it that the incidence of phone tapping mainly on behalf of his campaign has sky-rocketed in the country in recent weeks? It seems that anybody with a fleeting interest in politics is being investigated. As well as every small time campaigner being a security risk or a threat to the security of the state..

It is worse if you come from the so-called “wrong tribes” they talk about in the Kibaki campaign team. Many from the worng tribes have been appointed but are idle. Meaning that their appointment was only for cosmetic purposes.

And those good people tapping into our private calls, please stop dropping calls. Or even worse you hear that the person you spoke to was later telephoned by a stranger and interrogated, being asked what his relationship to the “suspect” is.

Even within the campaign team Kikuyu’s from Kiambu are being treated very suspiciously.

The president needs to instruct his team to treat all Kenyans with respect as the current arrogance can easily cost them the election.

Ringera Is Finally Smoked Out, Talks To The Press

It took the passing of an amendment of the law in parliament, clipping all the wings of the KACC for it’s boss Aaron Ringera to finally break his long silence to talk to the media.

He is now appealing President Kibaki not to sign the amendments into law. I am thinking to myself, what did Ringera do with the powers before they were snatched from him? And even if they are given back to him today, what can he do with them? Start dodging the press again and sit back and enjoy his fat salary and perks for mainly arresting and charging traffic policemen taking KShs 50 bribes.

I don’t think it makes a huge difference not being able to charge the traffic policemen who received 50 bob before 2003. There are probably plenty more committing the crime today. So there is really no difference, is there?

I am thinking that Baba Jimmy would be taking a big risk by not signing the new legislation into law because it protects him, Jimmy, and many others close to the centre of power. If this law does not go ahead according to plan then there is the danger that in case Baba Fidel Castro (Thanks PKW, or is it Jeff? You 2 leave such similar comments, you know) comes to power and loses his head, looters will not have the head-start they need to get away and head to—Brazil perhaps—before the men in uniform gleefully come knocking on their doors with them handcuffs.

One cannot help feeling that the reason why Justice Ringera has come out with both guns blazing is because at this rate there will no longer be a justification for him to draw his colossal salary or for his traffic-policeman arresting unit to exist any longer.

Why The Mantra, That Kanu Must Be Part Of The Next Government?

In trying to justify his reasons for supporting President Kibaki for re-election, leader of the official opposition Uhuru Kenyatta says that there is no point in standing in an election if one knows that they will lose.

What a lame excuse coming from the mouth of somebody who has seen the inside of a university lecture hall.

Uhuru must know that the essence of a democracy is having a strong viable opposition. Oppositions NEVER fold up to support the government just because they think they can’t win. That has never been heard of in the history of democracy in the world.

Come to think of it, there are numerous other firsts on our local political scene.

Only in Kenya are coalitions formed, deals sealed and MOU’s signed before an election. Only in Kenya was it decided in 1988 that secret ballot voting has no reason for existence and thus was born the notorious queue-voting system.

So now we have a new first; opposition folds up to support the incumbent.

I will tell you what is really going on. Actually I mentioned it here yesterday. The truth is that the Kenyattas, Mois and Kibakis have closed ranks to protect their own.

The clue is to be found in the often repeated phrase, “Kanu MUST be part of the next government.”

MUST? Why Must? What is so life-threatening with Kanu being in the opposition benches once again?

Answer: Because it will be too dangerous to the survival of the wealth of the Kenyattas and Mois if Kanu is NOT part of the next government. What Uhuru has said is that the masses can go to hell, because what is at stake here is the whole future of Uhuru, and his kin.

Now wouldn’t it be really funny if Uhuru ends in the opposition benches once again and as leader of the opposition too. This is not too far fetched. Picture a situation where Emilio loses the elections. There is no way a whole Baba Jimmy will go back trooping to the back benches and since people don’t fight for leader of the official opposition, the way they fight for the presidency, chances are very high that Uhuru Kenyatta will find himself back in his old office. But he has to make it to the 10th parliament in the first place, which according to the noise on the ground is very far from being a forgone conclusion.

What’s with these election predictions anyway? Don’t people ever learn? Remember Njenga Karume who abandoned Mwai Kibaki for Kanu because he was sure Kanu and Moi were unbeatable, only for him to realize that he actually consigned himself back to the opposition benches?

Only the GNUA saved him. GNUA stands for government of National Unity and Anglo-Leasing-like operations. It is too early to write off any of the three major parties going for the presidency so far. Namely ODM Yawa, Ho Ndii Em and of course the PNUA.

Haki Iwe Ngao Na Mlinzi

I would certainly have wished to have been as old and aware as I am now that very special day that Kenyans heard their brand new national anthem for the first time, sometime in 1963.

The drums, the cymbals, beating urgently and expectantly to usher in that all powerful opening 3 lines;

OH GOD OF ALL CREATION

BLESS THIS OUR LAND AND NATION

JUSTICE BE OUR SHIELD AND DEFENDER

By the third line it would have all been too much for me and the tears would have been trickling down my cheeks freely, the way they are now as I write this. In 1963 they would have been tears of joy and expectations. Now they are tears of despair and hopelessness. Close to 44 years later I can confidently report that JUSTICE has NOT BEEN the shield and defender of the Kenyan people. Rather it has been the shield and defender of a few elite thieves and looters of public funds.

This post is dedicated to the long-suffering people of Kenya. The voiceless, hungry hopeless Kenyans.

My brothers and sisters spare a thought today and say a silent prayer for all those Kenyans…

• In prison, NOT because they are guilty but because they are poor.
• Who have lost their loved ones including small children because there was no medicine in the hospital and they did not have the money to get proper medical treatment for them. By the way most of the scarce forex was used to transfer cash belonging to the high and mighty to secret Swiss accounts and elsewhere. In 1999 I traveled to the funeral of a friend’s wife in Tharaka, Meru and we gave a lift to just such a couple who had lost their daughter. She was hardly 9 years old. That tiny cheap coffin on the carrier of our Matatu will never leave my mind.
• All those desperate poorly educated Kenyans who did not get a decent education because their parents could not afford it and are now sentenced to a lifetime of frustration and desperation. And to make matters worse, their children are headed in exactly the same direction. I have a relative or two in this bracket.
• In prison because they dared to demand their dues from their employers.
• Those Kenyans who got so hungry that they had to steal to get food.
• And generally those Kenyans who short of divine intervention have no hope whether President Kibaki wins the elections or Raila Odinga and they probably don’t even know it yet

My dream is that one day in this our land, Kenya, Justice shall truly be the shield and defender of the poor disadvantaged masses of this great nation.

Ingenious Way To Raise Campaign Funds, New Source Now Says About Horrifying-Human-Waste-Eating Incident In Meru

I am informed that the case of one Ms Flora Igoki Tera is NOT the way it seems.

The Meru people are still a people deeply entrenched in traditions.

I am reliably informed that all Meru MPs are answerable to what is referred to as the Njuri Njeke elders. Knowing full well that you don’t mess with the Njuri Njeke, more so if you are a woman, Ms Tera renounced the elders and to add insult to injury did something else that is a “no’ “no” for women. She started singing male circumcision songs. My informant tells me “she got off very lightly.”

Now there are those who strongly feel that the real motive of Ms Tera was to attract attention with this huge publicity stunt with the aim of securing lucrative sponsorship. If this is true then judging from the kind of visitors she attracted at her hospital bed, the deal is already sealed. The US ambassador to Kenya himself was at her bedside strongly condemning violence against women.

It is Kumekucha’s policy to also publish the other side of a story even when it seems to contradict what I have previously said.

Mwirari’s Supporters Force Opponent To Eat Human Waste

Using the logic that some loud Kumekucha readers seem to subscribe to of being wrong until proved right, I will henceforth refer to the forthcoming elections as the daughter of all general elections (instead of the mother) in Kenya’s history.

Now as I was saying, the latest extremely bizarre and disturbing development in the run up to the cheapest and simplest general elections held in the history of the country is that a woman candidate for one of the Imenti parliamentary seats currently held by former finance minister Daudi “Anglo Leasing” Mwiraria, was very badly assaulted recently.

She is currently recovering at the Women’s Hospital at Hurlingham in Nairobi.

The incident deserves a closer look.

Her attackers beat her up, shaved her hair and then came the horrors of all horrors. They took her hair and mixed with human feaces and forced her to eat the “mixture.”

When Daudi Mwiraria, now the cabinet minister for environment visited the traumatized Ms Flora Igoki Tera at her hospital bed, the minute she saw the man, she started screaming at the top of her voice. The message was clear, she was convinced that her attackers were supporters of Mr Mwiraria.

It is possible that Ms Tera could have been subjected to more humiliating abuse which she will naturally not want to talk about in the full glare of TV cameras. So she only spoke about the least humiliating of the abuses against her. After all we all know what kind of abuse the vast majority of women who end up at the women’s hospital have usually undergone. This unique medical facility is able to provide unparalleled assistance and help in such cases.

Generally speaking the Meru community is a very violent lot but in past elections they have never reached the extreme we are seeing from this incident.

What Kenyans must realize is that this incident is but a warning to all those who want to campaign against those in the president’s inner cabinet and especially those who have been adversely mentioned in connection to corruption allegations. You will remember that Mr Mwiraria signed off a stupendous amount of money and the excuse he gave was that his junior officer asked him to sign. It is highly likely that the campaign strategy of Ms Tera must have touched on Mr Mwiraria’s credibility as a candidate.

The whole incident points to a witchcraft ritual of sorts signifying total defeat and humiliation of all those who would want to oppose Mr Mwiraria. Ms Tera is in fact very lucky to be alive.

Most Kenyans have completely missed to take the hint that the war is on and those who have raped this country again and again are willing to do anything to ensure that they make it back to parliament. Including forcing their opponents to eat human waste (the horror of it all is that it is unlikely that the human waste Ms Tera ate was her own. Most likely it belonged to her attackers.)

Two very significant things have happened over the last few days that should clearly put the writing on the wall for all to see. Firstly the families of former president Kenyatta, the Mois and the Kibakis have quickly closed ranks to face the upcoming cheap general; elections as a unit. Secondly parliament has clipped the wings of the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission and made it virtually impotent by passing an amendment to the law stopping it from investigating any corruption cases that took place before 2003.

Mambo bado, but that’s just for starters in this simple, boring upcoming elections.

The Four Thieves

This is the time to ask some very serious questions. ODM presidential hopeful Raila Odinga in his current tour of the United States has pledged to fight corruption. It is important that we get a little more specific (Phil, I urge you to allow me to do this without requesting an apology from me later).

What Raila is saying about corruption is good. Only that we have had it before. In fact it was spoken much more emphatically by Baba Jimmy who emphasized it with the words “zero tolerance” to corruption. And the guy looked so serious then that I started getting impatient for the election day to come so that I could cast my vote for him.

It reminds me very much of what many women do to seduce a woman in the good old days when the aggressor in these matters was only the man. These days I am told women approach men and tell them bluntly “I want you.” Anyway in those days you would promise your “victim” heaven on earth knowing very well what your objective was. Once you had “scored” everything changed and women had to fight very hard to retain a man in those days.

Well, the season to be seduced is here with us again and politicians are carelessly and recklessly whispering sweet nothings into our ears. Pole sana. This time we (at least I) have learnt a lesson and I refuse to take promises at their face value.

It is therefore important for us to analyze the reasons why Baba Jimmy failed. To do this I will tell you a short story.

Once upon a time there were four thieves. One day one of the aging thieves decided to turn over a new leaf and went round preaching all over the village and beyond that it was time for the villagers to take action against thieves. To be honest the aging thief had never really been a thief at heart and his only mistake is that he had shared in the loot a few times and the rest of the time he had conveniently looked the other way.

The three thieves who were still making a killing from their activities started getting really worried about the latest development and they held several meetings to discuss what to do.

Then one of them came up with an idea. They noticed that the aging thief was struggling going round from place to place walking while leaning heavily on his walking stick. So they gave him a gift of a donkey, which he accepted gratefully.

=========================================
The aging thief soon became so popular that the villagers forced their chief out and installed the aging thief in his place with one mandate, to rid the village of thieves.

So the aging thief gathered all the thieves in the centre of the village ready to burn them alive in front of the wildly cheering crowd. Amongst the thieves were his 3 former colleagues. They quickly pleaded guilty but made one request which was quickly accepted because it sounded so reasonably. They volunteered to name all their accomplices.

The one who spoke on their behalf asked a question;

“If something is stolen and then it is given to a friend of a thief as a gift, is the person who receives the gift also guilty?

“Of course.” The crowd roared.

“So both should receive the same punishment?”

“Yes.” The crowd roared, now getting very impatient.

The man pointed to the donkey they had given the aging thief as a gift.

“That donkey is stolen and it belonged to Mzee Hekima. I gave it to your chief as a gift.”

The crowd went silent and suddenly everybody was very confused.

You can guess what happened in the end. All the thieves were released. Nobody was burnt at the stakes that day.

Known thieves of public funds in Kenya have given out “Donkeys” to President Kibaki’s campaign in 2002 and are doing the same this time round. Known thieves of public funds have not only given “donkeys” to Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign, but many of them are very senior powerful office bearers in ODM.

Please draw your own conclusions based on my story. You will begin to understand why Mwalimu Taabu is NOT backing any horse.

Martha Karua And Amos Kimunya NOT Telling The Truth

According to Martha Karua, the biggest hindrance to implementing the recommendations of the Kroll report are foreign governments who are not willing to co-operate in recovering looted funds from foreign accounts.

Finance Minister Amos Kimunya says that the government has spent close to a billion on several initiatives aimed at curbing corruption and recovering looted funds of which commissioning the Kroll Associates investigations was just one.

Both cabinet ministers totally and quite deliberately missed the point.

The Kroll report on its' own is more than enough to act as the basis of prosecution against the Mois and their associates. And if Moi is "too heavy a stone to turn" then at least they should start with Joshua Kulei and Biwott. Just half the sources of information on the report are enough to assist in gathering enough evidence to get a successful prosecution.

Instead the government of national unity is hoping to convince the people of Kenya that although no big fish has been prosecuted, they have done enough and the problem is that their hands are tied because of the current constitution.

Ha, ha, ha, ha. Even a crocodile in the River Tana which swallows at the least excuse WILL NOT swallow that one. In fact if the current constitution is not good enough to prosecute, why were some powerful forces trying to sneak in an amendment in parliament recently to bar the KACC from investigating corruption cases that happened before 2003?

Strange Kibaki Re-election Campaign

This is going to be one confusing general elections. We have the Democratic Party (the president's old political vehicle), then we have the brand new Narc and now we have the PNU (Party of National Unity) all supporting President Kibaki's re-election.

It might be very clear to me and you that the PNU is the umbrella party but it opens the doors wide open for mischief. For example if I was the DP parliamentary candidate somewhere in Central province and there were other candidates in Narc and other parties, all you need to do is put doubt on the electorate that they cannot vote for Kibaki without voting for me in DP.

Sounds unlikely, then you don't know politics in rural areas. By the way I would eave this rumour to very late in the day. Just before polling day so that there is no time for people to confirm.

This is just one trick. There are dozens of other things that could go wrong with the president's current strategy. It is a basic rule in management and virtually every other discipline that the way to do things is to keep them simple. When you complicate something, basically you are asking for problems.

I will say it again; some strategies are just too smart on paper and many times these are just the kind that end up outsmarting the originators themselves.

My assertion is that whoever is in charge of the presidents re-election bid is even more of an amateur than Kumekucha and there is a good chance that they will get massacred by the experienced old hands on the other side.

Things are rather clear and simple on the ODM side. In fact according to KJ opf head on corrison fame, it is quite simple to differentiate the two ODM parties—one is Ho Ndi Em and the other is ODM yawa.

On another note. Surprisingly although Jeff will never miss an opportunity to aim a barb in my direction, we seem to agree on many issues, especially those that have to do with the direction the country should head to. However Jeff gets irritated every time I refer to this year's polls as the mother of all polls. Here are some of the reasons why I have christened elections 2007 like so;

i) The looters old and new can sense "the vultures circling overhead" and are aware that one wrong move and they'll be somebody's meal. Therefore of all elections Moi for example has had a stake in, this is one where those stakes are highest and he cannot afford to lose. He is only too aware, despite the brave face he puts on, that one wrong move and next year his address could change from Kabarnet gardens to Kamiti Maximum Security prison.

ii) On the other hand the people of Kenya have experienced a very steep learning curve since 2002. They are much more difficult to cheat with euphoria tactics. My prediction is that this time round the Kenyan electorate will shock everybody by the way they vote.

iii) Life is difficult within the Kenyan borders and the people on the ground (who don't read this blog and DO not therefore leave comments here) are eager for genuine change. There are several interested parties who want to use this mood to shift things in their favor (like the mysterious guys who leaked the Kroll Associates Report). Bear in mind that these guys are not supporters of either ODM or the GNU. So what are they up to?

When you put all these factors into the pot, the only thing you can expect is a very violent chemical reaction as the different "chemicals" meet.

Anyway, Jeff let us wait and see shall we? I will be around to apologize if I am proved wrong. What about you?

Tanzanians Should Give Us A Break

It is becoming increasingly clear, that the 11 Kenyans who were gunned down in Tanzania were "executed" and were highly unlikely to have been participating in a robbery.

I am aware that the vast majority of readers of this blog are in support of extra-judicial killings as a sound strategy to fight crime. As much as I hate violent crime, I DO NOT agree.

It is better for 10 genuine criminals to face a fair trial and be acquitted rather than have just one innocent person going to the gallows for a crime they did not commit. Let us not be short-sighted folks. The next time your company unexpected sends you to Moshi and you end up in the same hotel as some Kenyan thugs and then the police burst in and arrest all Kenyans in the hotel and then shoot all of them dead, will that be fair?

It is no secret that the Tanzanian police and the government have for a long time been getting increasingly irritated by Kenyan thugs robbing their banks and it was only a matter of time before something gave, which happened last week.

But let us spare a thought for the possibility that one or more of the dead Kenyans was innocent. What would you have felt if you were a member of the family and you knew the truth.

Tanzanian authorities should also be realistic. How many Tanzanians are being arrested at JKIA for drug trafficking every other week. Personally I know a number of Tanzanians who are drug traffickers, which in my book is a crime that kills many more people. (Remember that many thugs use drugs to execute robberies and rape.) There is one who pretends to import cars but he lives for two years in the plush Nyali suburb on one imported car (Not a HAMMER but a cheap 1200cc).

Using the logic of most readers here maybe what we should do the next time we arrest Tanzanian drug traffickers is shoot them dead and then say that they resisted arrest. We are quite good at that business of "my mboys(sic) returned fire."

The day Kenyans do this, is the day they will see the wrath of the Tanzanians and realize how they have something that we don't have.

Is This The End Of Uhuru Kenyatta’s Prominence In Kenyan Politics?

The political future of Uhuru Kenyatta does not look too bright just now.

To start with Kanu are due to meet next week to officially announce the person they will support for the presidency. This will be a mere formality as powerful party members have made no secret of who their preferred candidate is. It is the incumbent President Mwai Kibaki.

This puts Uhuru in an impossible situation. Supporting Kibaki will cripple his kind of politics and render him virtually impotent. Yes he has no other choice because as current party leader he has to lead by example.

On the other hand in the unlikely event that he decides to rebel, he will be faced with the prospect of possibly losing his parliamentary seat. The naked truth is that you can sell many things to the Kikuyu community but one thing that you will not convince the majority of them to do in 100 years, is to vote Raila Odinga.

Then there is the possibility that because the country has already had a total of two presidents from the house of Mumbi, it is highly unlikely that the next 3 presiodents will hail from the Kikuyu community. It does not matter whether President Kibaki is re-elected or not.

It is sad that a politician who has shown such promise has been treated so harshly by fate and circumstances.

However those who do not like Uhuru will argue that it was his father who launched the tradition of looting. The old man grabbed vast pieces of land and created vast wealth for the family by taking 15 per cent shareholding in many foreign companies that invested in Kenya during his 15-year reign at the helm. This opened the door for the excesses that followed.

In fact after the revelations of the Kroll report there are those who feel that the Kenyatta family also needs to return most if not all their vast wealth.

This brings us to the main reason why if push comes to shove, Uhuru really has no option but to support President Kibaki. The president, former President Moi and President Kenyatta, all have plenty in common and will need to close ranks as public opinion against looted wealth in Kenya continues to demand justice and the return of public funds.

Nairobi Woman Shot Dead With Moshi Bank Robbers Was Innocent, Sources Insist

Details are emerging about one of the Kenyans shot dead by Tanzanian police on allegations that she was part of a group about to rob a bank. It seems that the well like entrepreneur, Ann Nyakanyi King’ara may have been an innocent victim who may have been at the wronmg place at the wrong time.

One source in Nairobi told Kumekucha; “I am certain that Anne Nyakanyi King'ara had nothing to do with the botched 'plot' to rob the Moshi bank. I've known Anne for 20 plus good years and done heavy business deals with her. She was a real angel true to her word. I never fell out with her and I don't know anyone who has.”

The source continues; “Actually I had just seen her recently at her City Driving School office in Nyambene Hse and she was in a jovial mood as always. Anne was extremely wealthy and from one of the richest families in Kiambu district. If she really wanted to execute a bank heist, I'm sure she would have afforded to hire enough men to execute the operation, just like rich crooks usually do.”

The source also raises other interesting observations about the allegede robbery attempt:
“I also don't buy that 20 people would be involved to raid a bank. Remember 14 were killed/executed and 6 fled. 20 sounds incredible- how much loot would they share per person? Peanuts. I'm sure Anne was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Her dad would have given her any amount she would have asked for- being her favourite child. The dad owns Baraka tools and hardware/ Baraka Petrol station, Baraka fabricators/ the famous Baraka cement distributors/ dozens of posh flats/ etc.

“Anne's brothers are ALL extremely wealthy owning over 40 hauliage lorries etc. Anne did not need to join a gang of 20 to make a measly "100k".

“With her hugely successful driving school, one of the oldest and a big security firm (Annkan), Anne could make 100k in about 2 days. Also bear in mind she has never been arrested or even questioned before by police. To be licensed to operate a security firm, one goes thru a very thorough vetting procedure. My humble inkling is that she met some people she knew mingled with them and that cost her dear life. Hope Anne rests in eternal peace. I will forever remember her for what she was, a loving mother of 2 beautiful daughters, hardworking and kind.”

Kenyans who have lived abroad are aware of the feeling you get when you meet a fellow Kenyan. This may just have been what happened in Moshi.

Another puzzling aspect of the shooting of Anne is the fact that her relatives say that they were not aware that she was in Tanzania. So could she have been taken there against her will? Maybe in a vehicle stolen in Kenya? Our local police should also explore that angle. Moshi is a mere 5 hours from Nairobi and such a theory is quite plausible.

Open Letter To Raila Odinga From Regular Kumekucha Reader

Sir,

I don’t really care if you publish this or not; I don’t also really care if Raila Odinga reads it or not; most likely he will: I am very respectful to him, no doubt about this.

I have a few Luo friends and I am also very respectful to them, but there is one trait I notice, and perhaps this will help them, and Raila too, I am not convinced, though, but they should look at this with an open mind.

Those my Luo friends have one dominant characteristic; they do not accept to lose in a discussion, albeit grudgingly. Most people have this trait though, but it is very dominant in my Luo friends. Look at our football in those days of Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, look at politicians when they go to Kisumu and they are not approved those days by Odinga and now his son.

Why has it to happen only when Luos are involved? Every adult Kenyan of over 50 years and above can recall what happened in Kisumu in 1966 between the late President Kenyatta and Odinga. Politicians go to all locations in our country even when they are not necessarily liked, but there are no stones or abusive words thrown at them. There is an ungentle spirit controlling these people. There is a bad omen surrounding Luo attitude to whatever is new or foreign or they do not like.

They need to be exorcised of this spirit. Perhaps it came to them in 1966, I am not sure. I have no record or knowledge of their behavior prior to the Kenyatta/Odinga duel. Look at Raila's fights with Wamalwa Kijana etc.

If Raila is to win elections in Kenya, he must start to cultivate a very gentle man’s character and image so that he resembles the likes of Kibakis, Wamalwas, Murilos, and Mois among others.

The latter was the most humble of them all, the only shortcoming being that he was somewhat lacking in higher education. Nevertheless, a most polite and sweet personality.

You cannot say the same of Raila's abrasive character and his late father who could say
anything anywhere any time. Kenyans can read all this in our characters and might not entrust with such a high office as head of state when they are suspicious that he may not be able not steer the ship of the state in the right direction, while keeping his cool.

Please Raila, with all due respect, be warned for to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Otherwise Bravo for what you have done so far.

Ugandan Leaves Kenyan Beauties In The Dust

Maureen Nyakaira named as Miss East Africa UK 2007

The much anticipated Miss East Africa UK 2007 finally took place on 1st September at the prestigious Conway Hall, London. The event saw 21 year old Ugandan medical physics student Maureen Nyakaira steal the crown under a very stiff competition from contestants from Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea.

A beaming Maureen: Kenyans Kitu gani?

Maureen, who is a student at Cardiff University in Wales, expressed a mixed reaction to winning the crown. “I will remember this night for the rest of my life, at first I was shocked, Is it me really? But then that was my number they called,” she said. Meanwhile the crowd cheered as the humble beauty claimed the prestigious title. However the Head judge of the night Actress Rachel Ritfeld described Maureen as humble, graceful and very natural and she would go along way in raising awareness for East African under privileged children.

Miss East Africa UK was attended by guests not only from East African community but other parts of Africa and Europe with special guests of the night ex-war child Emmanuel Jal and Cindy of the famous Ugandan girl band Blu*3. The highlight of the night was the performance by the Sudanese ex-war child soldier Emmanuel Jal. He wooed the crowd with his unique style of gospel rap with its message of peace and reconciliation born out of his experiences as a child soldier in Sudan. Emmanuel who grew up in Kenya after being smuggled out of war torn country Sudan had kind words to say to the founder and CEO of Miss East Africa UK; Pauline Long. “I am honoured to be here to support a good cause and I commend Pauline for standing up for vulnerable children, children orphaned through HIV/AIDS and Genocide,” he said.

Pauline Long who is also a Kenyan, established the beauty pageant in 2006 in order to sensitize and highlight on issues affecting the East African child. On the other hand, Emmanuel Jal is the founder of GUA Africa; a charity that works with individuals, families and communities to enable then overcome effects of war. He expressed interest in working with the newly crowned Miss East Africa UK.

Maureen Nyakaira who is now officially the 2nd title winner of Miss East Africa UK is expected to emulate Brenda Akot’s accomplishments and achievements. Brenda Akot, Miss East Africa UK 2006, did a tremendous job carrying out charitable duties not only in the UK but also in East Africa where she worked with Nyumbani Children’s home and Rafiki’s children home of Kenya. While handing the crown to Maureen, Brenda said, “I wish you all the best and I trust you will be a brilliant ambassador for the East African children.” The newly crowned queen is already planning her first trip in October; she will travel to Tanzania to volunteer at Forever Angels Baby Home. She will also deliver nappies, wipes, baby food, toys and generally items required for baby care. The home is situated in Mwanza on the shores of Lake Victoria in Tanzania. This Baby Home provides a stable, loving home for up to 23 orphaned and abandoned babies and infants who are severely disadvantaged. The home provides nutrition, love, health care, physical and emotional support until the child is either fostered, adopted or reunited with their family. However, the Ugandan beauty is not a new recruit when it comes to doing charity work and helping needy children. In 2006 she travelled back to her village in her home country Uganda with friends where they built a school for the children. Her passion already lies with bringing a smile to a child’s face. After the Tanzania trip, Maureen will again head to Uganda in January to visit pearl children care Home in Jinja. In the meantime she will continue to do campaigns for Nyumbani children’s home situated in Nairobi, Kenya, Rafiki Children’s home Kenya, orphans of Rwanda and Edukaid of Tanzania.

Apart from her charity work Maureen has won a one year Modelling contract with UK’s top modelling agency Mahogany Models, an exclusive dress custom made for her by top elite designer Moyo by BB designs, she will also get to model for Grace Shannan designs during her reign and will appear in various leading UK magazine spread. The pageant would like to thank all the sponsors and partners listed below for making this event happen: Tumukunde.com, UGPulse.com, Grace Shannans designs, Moyo by BB designs, Mahogany Model management, Shades of Ebony, Kosibah Creations, Godson pictures, Screen nation awards, Karama Umuntu Magazine, Diamond Touch Magazine and (la maison d’Issey )- Mikolo collection

Daniel Arap Moi Is Much More Evil Than Kenyans Think

Kumekucha Exclusive

Arrest Mois, Kuleis, Biwott for grand looting and corruption, before we do anything else

Our digest of the Kroll Associates report mainly on Moi and his associates here has attracted very high volumes of traffic to this blog and with it some bizarre information that I at first thought was somebody who had gone overboard.

However I still decided to check the information from a few other sources. Surprisingly the response came very quickly complete with names of sources and even written documents that supported the allegations that I thought were rather wild.

Even as I write this I am still beside myself in utter shock.

Let me start from what is already known and then move to the unknown, or rather what I have verified only today.

Elsewhere in this blog we have detailed that the real reason why Dr Robert Ouko was murdered was because he had information on the then president Moi of a very personal nature, concerning his involvement with Ugandan twilight girls brought to him. One is even said to have gotten pregnant and this greatly upset and worried the former president. For some reason Moi was horrified that his clean bible-carrying-church-going president would be shattered in the eyes of Kenyans and could not bear to think of such an eventuality. According to one prominent eyewitness (one of the very few Ouko witnesses still alive today), this is the main reason why Dr Ouko was killed. (Read Kumekucha article on the real reason Ouko had to die)

Now I have learnt that in later years the former president preferred schoolgirls and especially virgins from poor families who would not dare let out any secrets. One of my sources claims that the reason for this was the fear of catching Aids. The same source insists that some of the girls organized for the former president were extremely young, well below 18 years of age.

One source who confirmed this to one of my informants was the late Father Angelo d'Agostini of the Nyumbani Aids Orphans village. The big secret was told to him by the headmistress of one girls' school whose conscience could not take it any more. She came to Father Agostini for counseling and help in getting treatment over the trauma that the whole incident caused.

This information has also been confirmed from some diplomatic circles in Nairobi who says it was "common knowledge in diplomatic circles" at the time.

Yet another independent source is special advisor to President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda who was aware of the Ugandan girls but on learning about the school girls, could not bring himself to believe the information.

It is also claimed that the former president had a string of illegitimate children (like many other politicians) during his long tenure in politics. It is alleged that one of his biological children was former Kisumu PC Amos Bore.

Rumours had always been flying around during Moi's tenure as president about his preferenc for visiting and assisting Girl's schools and mostly shunning boy's schools. But this is the first time that some concrete information from those who have proof has come forward.

Although this behavior must have caused a lot of distress to many young Kenyan girls and their parents, it still all pales in comparison to the loads of evidence contained in the Kroll report on the massive looting that went on during Moi's 24 years (all those sources talked to can be witnesses in a case that would successfully prosecute Moi and his sons.)

If Moi cannot be prosecuted in Kenya (Kibaki does not look like he is capable of doing what is right and history will surely judge him very harshly—it does not matter how many Kibaki Foundations he launches) can't the Mois and company be charged in an international court for crimes against the people of Kenya? Surely the suffering caused is a human rights issue.

One does not need to be a lawyer to ask a few pointed questions, because the Mois will always say that they are innocent of looting. For instance, where did all the money come from? If it was made legitimately, why the need to launder it and bank it abroad? And what businesses generated such colossal sums of money?

Police Commissioner Major Hussein Ali and his men in uniform are fond of picking up ordinary and sometimes innocent Kenyans and holding them in custody for them to assist in investigations. Why can't all the Moi's plus Nicholas Biwott and Joshua Kulei be arrested so that they can assist police with further investigations? I will tell you why. It is because we have two sets of laws Kenya. Those for the rich thieves who have looted this country and those that apply to ordinary hard working Kenyans.

The grand looting detailed in the Kroll report has haunted me so much so that I can hardly concentrate on writing any other story or politics. What is the point, if we can't deal with those who have looted our country bringing so much untold suffering and also bringing the country down to its' knees?

I now know what John Githongo felt and why he could not take it anymore and preferred to flee for his life. And to think that all those who have seen the other 3 reports say that the current leaked Kroll report is the mildest of the four!

Did Kenyan BusinessWoman Rob Banks In Tanzania As A Side "Business"?

It is a fact that many successful businessmen in Kenya especially those of Asian origin have prospered in Kenya by running illegal businesses right alongside their legitimate businesses.

Many ran illegal foreign exchange businesses in the days when there was foreign exchange control in the country. Others have been linked to carjacking and car theft which they finance and thrive on alongside their factories in Nairobi's Industrial area.

Now it would appear that local businessmen are catching up in this game. One prominent Nairobi businessman is said to purchase stolen computers from thugs which he quickly cannibalizes for parts.

Now the Tanzania police are saying that a prominent Nairobi businesswoman gunned down in Moshi, Tanzania, who owned a city driving school had a side business of robbing banks in Tanzania. The truth is that business is hard in Nairobi and if you check out many prominent businesses, survival would be impossible without a side business (legal or illegal).

Already reports indicate that six of the 11 Kenyans gunned down were on the Kenya Police, most wanted list. So if the good lady was innocent, what was she doing with these bank robbers?

Moshi and Arusha are actually the most crime-prone Tanzanian towns and Tanzanians have always believed that it is because of its' proximity to Kenya. Arusha is 4 hours from Nairobi and Moshi is one hour from Arusha. The population of Kenyans in this two Tanzanian towns is actually very high.

As we have said here many times before, Tanzanans have always been highly suspicious of Kenyans and have been stalling on every attempt made at opening up the East African borders for free movement of labor and property believeing that such a move would turn most of Tanzania into another Nairobbery. Now they have plenty of "ammunition" to support their fears, with this latest high profile botched bank robbery.

As you read this Tanzanian business is benefiting tremendously from being able to export products into Kenya without incurring duty while anything that enters Tanzania from Kenya attracts 5 % duty.

I will repeat what I have said here often. Either Kenya should pull out of the proposed common East African market which does not benefit us currently, or Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi should "do common market business" and leave Tanzania out of the equation, at least for the time being. What is currently happening is that a lot of taxpayers' money is being wasted in Arusha where we are gaining very little or nothing.

Arrest Moi, Arrest Gideon, Arrest Biwott… Immediately!

Haven't read the report everybody is talking about? Read the entire Kroll Associates report on mega corruption in Kenya NOW
WARNING: It is strongly adviced that if you have a weak heart condition you should avoid reading this report
---------------------------------------

Kenyans the world over are still reeling in shock over the revelations detailed in the leaked Kroll Associates report. The world has learn in the last few days that Nigerians who were previously thought to be champions in the game of grand corruption by government actually come a poor second to Kenya. And even Mobutu Sese Seko who looted his own mineral rich country of Zaire in those days (called Democratic Republic of Congo) did not quite outdo our very own Daniel Arap Moi.

Why bother going for elections to recycle the same people who will do exactly the same thing? Anglo Leasing has proved that this corruption in high places thing will just keep on repeating itself over and over again.

Theer is only one way to put an end to it. I appeal to the government to arrest former president Moi immediately, as well as Nicholas Biwott, Gideon Moi and Philip Moi and that will just be for starters. From those interviewed for the Kroll report, there is more than enough evidence to prosecute all these people on more than a dozen counts. Don’t forget that John Troon formerly of Scotland Yard says that there is enough evidence to prosecute Moi. Read this Kumekucha interview with Troon earlier this year.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
http://kumekucha.blogspot.com/2007/02/there-is-enough-evidence-to-convict.html

If it is true that President Kibaki is not corrupt and therefore not like these people, let him fulfill his well documented pledge of zero tolerance to corruption made in 2002 and arrest these people who have looted the country blind. If the president can do this one thing, then he does not need the co-operation of Moi to win the forthcoming elections. In fact the only people Moi, Biwott and sons should be co-operating with are inmates at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

I can already hear the hard breathing from my brothers from the Kalenjin community reading this, but my dear brothers, please give me a chance to plead my case. I am your brother and I am one Kenyan who thanks God so much that this beautiful community of the Kalenjin is part of Kenya, because where would we be if it wasn’t? What else would we be left to be proud about were it not for the amazing feats on the track that mainly comes from this community?

But what does arresting and charging Moi, Biwott and company in court have to do with the Kalenjin? Please let us leave the community out of this. I have read the Kroll several times over and there is nowhere where it mentions the Kalenjin community. And even when Moi traveled abroad to hand over accounts of the looted fund, there is nowhere whetre it says a representative of the Kalenjin community accompanied them to take care of the share of the community. If anything majority of the Kalenjins have suffered just like other Kenyans during the Moi era if not more so. I urge you fellow Kenyans to join me in this noble call top make an example and end this terrible, terrible curse of corruption in high places that has plagued our country.

Let us start with Moi and company and work backwards to the killers of Mboya. Fellow Kenyans any other way will be consigning our children, grand children and great grandchildren to terrible. Terrible, terrible suffering. Folks this cannot go on, PLEASE!!!

Why Corruption Money Is Blood Money

The revelations of the Kroll report were truly out of this world. But what Kenyans must now focus on are the effects of this massive looting and what it has done and continues to do to ordinary Kenyans.

The thing that brought tears to my eyes was the fact that when Moi and Biwott were looting the country through the Turkwell Gorge project (according to the Kroll report) there were scarce foreign exchange reserves in the country. Meaning that forex was being allocated to transfer foreign currency to personal accounts abroad while Kenyans were dying in hospitals for lack of medicine that could not be imported because there was no forex. Imagine that?

Then the flooding of the country with these looted funds in 1992 caused unprecedented inflationary pressure and has ended up causing untold suffering to millions of Kenyans. Then you have to remember all the people who have gotten killed to keep this information secret.

This is blood money and that’s why it has not given any peace to the people who looted it and they have even fallen out with members of their own community over very trivial issues.

This is a very serious issue for Kenyans to chew. At stake is the future of our children and grand children for many generations to come.

ODM Presidential Nominations: This Is The Shocking Thing That Happened Behind The Scenes

Is This Democratic Choreography?

During the ODM presidential nominations exercise at Kasarani last week, Raila Odinga could be seen consulting with various officials on the floor from time to time.

Today we can reveal what really went on behind the scenes during those so-called elections, which many critics of ODM and the Langata MP have described as choreographed.

The first strange thing in the "election results" was the fact that Musali Mudavadi beat Ruto. Simple arithmetic will tell you that this would have been virtually impossible considering the number of delegates representing Kalenjin, Rift Valley. Impeccable sources have informed me that Ruto actually beat Mudavadi but their results were switched round at the last minute to have Mudavadi beating Ruto so as to justify Raila selecting him as running mate and the VP should he form the next government.

It was felt by the ODM presidential candidates, who had a lengthy meeting at Safari Park hotel on the morning of that big day, that Ruto would not be good in terms of image because of his past links to corruption. Mudavadi, it was felt, was the cleaner candidate.

But even more telling was the delegates list for Kasarani. No other secret within ODM is more guarded at the moment.

Those who have seen the list have a fascinating tale to tell. For example A Mr Oloo was head of the Limuru delegates and close to 90% of the delegates from Central province were Luos. Desperate efforts by members of the press to get hold of that delegates list have failed and my sources say that even if a list is finally released to the press, it will not be the correct one.

There is of course nothing wrong with all this, every party is free to run things as they see fit. My only worry, and this should be the worry of every Kenyan, is if similar tactics will be used from State house to keep Kenyans in the dark over what is really happening, if Mr Odinga is elected president.

I have said here again and again that Mr Odinga is the cleanest of all the presidential candidates (and time will prove that statement accurate) however he is clearly from the old school and is bound to do things in the same way that former president Moi and Kibaki have done them. It is therefore my opinion that electing Odinga will NOT achieve a clean break with the past, which is what Kenya needs desperately at this time.

Such tactics by Mr Odinga are a political strategy to create an image of being popular in suspect provinces. Well, that's politics, but what will happen when election day arrives, because we definitely do not have enough Mr Oloo's to carry the day in Limuru?

Still it seems that unless something dramatic happens between now and the elections to bring in a viable fourth candidate, the best option currently is Raila.

But I have still not given up and my hunch is that Kenyans are in for a surprise. Keep your eyes on this space.

The Forgotten Moi Son Who Deals In Drugs

(previous post in this series)

The press hardly mention President Moi's other son, Philip Moi. Yet some of his deals would make Gideon look like an angel in comparison.

According to the Kroll report, Philip's estimated wealth stands at about $770 million and he is said to control more hidden cash than even Gideon. Philip uses low key Asians and even houseboys as proxies for all his business deals and interests.

Philip rarely travels and chooses to use his wife Zara instead, who is an Italian and relatively unknown in Kenya, even amongst the press. So she is able to slip in and out of the country without attracting any attention. She is also his link to many Italian underworld businesses that Philip works with.

According to the Kroll report, Philip Moi has dealt in Hashish, Madrax tablets and bhang grown around the Mount Kenya area with the Akasha family. But it doesn’t stop there. He has also dealt with hard drugs like Cocaine, providing cover for Italian families based in Malindi on the Kenyan Coast. It is said that with his help, the drug caretl in Malindi was able to offload 20-feet containers, packed with drugs.

The Kroll report names Muzahim as Philip's business partner. Muzahim has mainly been a car dealer, drug baron and money counterfeiter. Basically Philip provided the cover and Muzahim managed the operations. They jointly made counterfeit dollars for Somalia, Zaire, Sudan and Liberia.

When Muzahim and Philip fell out, Philip paid an assassin to kill him mainly because he knew too much and had armed himself with extensive documentary proof to protect himself. Amazingly the would-be assassin approached Muzahim and confessed to him what had happened. He was promptly paid off to abandon the mission.

Mudavadi And Ruto's Meeting With Jirongo

Last weekend Cyrus Jirongo had some rather prominent visitors with a rather strange request, or so he must have thought.

Musalia Mudavadi, accompanied by William Ruto called on the Kaddu chief and requested him to step down in favor of Raila and Musalia. There was no horse trading and in asking him to withdraw, they did not offer anything in return. It appears that Jirogo got a little upset at the affront and told Musalia in the face that he was just trying to use the Luhya vote to secure the vice presidency in a possible Raila Odinga government.

Mudavadi and Ruto in return accused Jirongo of being a spoiler for the Luhya vote. Jirongo however insisted that the real spoilers are Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka who could not agree between themselves.

Analysts feel that this approach to Jirongo was just an initial one to feel around and as we approach the elections, more pressure will be brought to bear on him to step down and release the Luhya votes he controls to ODM.

There is a feeling now that former president Moi in view of the Kroll report leakage has his hands rather full just now and will end up playing a much more low key role in the forthcoming polls than he had earlier envisaged.

Vice President Moody Awori's Questionable Deals

The tentacles of the Kroll Associates report reach right into the heart of the Kibaki administration and severa names of people who are noe very close to President Kibaki are mentioned.

This includes Prof George Saitoti (notorious for asking for a million or two to facilitate every little thing) to Matere Keriri and others.

However the biggest name mentioned is the Vice President himself Moody Awori whom the Kroll report links to questionable deals with one of the lawyers who represents Biwott's interests, Horatius Da Gama Rose.

Although the Kroll report does not go into too much detail, the Vice President has been inked to a few embarrassing "deals." For example he has never commented about a serious allegations leveled at him for interfering in a murder case involving his constituents.

I Was IN Tanzania When 11 Kenyan Robbery Suspects Were Killed

Guest post by Richard

Some days ago I was glorying in the wonderful performance of Kenyan athletes in Osaka, Japan. The medals they clinched put a spring in my step and I felt like shouting to all and sundry that I was Kenyan head to toe, ear to ear.

I felt like standing alongside key world statesmen on the ‘choicest’ podiums and make a speech in praise of Kenya; the enigma, the mystery behind our unwavering, unflagging and undaunted zeal, vim and vivacity.

In the East Africa region we’ve all along been the country offered as an example in a number of respects: economically (as a fast growing economy); people who are self-driven and ready to take up new challenges gracefully.

But all that is a thing of the past, well, almost. Some sections of the Kenyan populace have been trying to do all they can and could do to sully what has taken sweat and blood to build; what has taken years to nurture: the vintage Kenyan reputation.

I was in Dar es Salaam on Thursday 6th September, 2007, when I received the rather shocking news that 11 Kenyans had been shot dead in Moshi (a town in northern Tanzania) as they were planning to raid Exim Bank in the town.

The suspects were killed on Wednesday evening after a fierce exchange of fire between them and the Tanzania police. Among the arms found on their persons were an AK-47 rifle, bombs, bullet proof vests and 200 plus bullets

Among the killed suspects was a woman, a Hannah Nyakanyi Kingara, who hailed from Kiambu. The Daily Nation has reported today, Saturday 8th September 2007, that she was a Nairobi-based businesswoman while two others were on a police wanted list.

A month ago there was another exchange of fire between Kenyan robbers with the Tanzania police in Arusha (a town that neighbours Moshi in northern Tanzania) and two of the robbers were killed in the fierce gun-battles that lasted virtually six hours. They had been involved in a bank heist where they stole more than Tsh 200 million (approx. Ksh 10,526,315).

As I was in Tanzania when the recent event was reported in the media, I got to read the atmosphere and know one thing for sure: the good name of Kenya in the region was irreparably going up in smoke!

“Ni hawa wakenya tena, hivi mbona wanapenda kutuonea hivi,” was the lament of one Tanzanian.

Another one said, quite forcefully, “Ndiyo maana nawachukia hawa watu. Shirikisho la Afrika Mashariki hatulitaki kama haya ndiyo mambo tutakayokuwa tunakumbana nayo siku nenda rudi. Kila mtu akae kwao.” (It roughly translates to: “That’s why I hate these Kenyans. Tanzanians don’t need the East Africa Federation if these are some of the things we’ll have to put up with day in day out when the federation comes into existence.”

Does this state of affairs go to show the level of unrest, ‘anarchy’ and desperation that is hidden in many of our people’s minds? Or is it the spill over from the ‘anarchy’ and criminal acts that have ravaged Kenya for most of the last two years, especially?

If these criminal acts are not contained, then, the present level of mistrust prevalent between Kenya and Tanzania will double, triple, quadruple …ad infinitum.

Kroll Report Gives Clues On Why The Moi Empire Is About To Crumble

According to the Kroll Report, sometime between December 2003 and January 2004, Mukesh Gohil, Gideon Moi's main money man had dinner at an Asian restaurant in Ukay Centre Westlands. He was in the company of a relative, Kishan Behal and another man who deals with properties on their behalf.

Mukesh Gohil boasted that without him Gideon was a lost man because he would not be able to keep track of his own money. He gave examples of occasions when Gideon had called him to ask him about trivial details concerning monies that were already in his account in foreign banks.

But the main shocking revelation he made was of how Gideon feels increasingly insecure and vulnerable. The reason is that he has fallen out with too many of his former close aides, incidentally all of them from his own Kalenjin community. They include people like Ken Boit, Donald Kipkorir, Ken Kiplagat, Sirma and Kogo among others. This in sharp contrast to his aides of Asian origin who are standing by him.

A source to the Kroll Associates report indicates that the younger Moi may be seriously analyzing the possible consequences of not honoring the demands of the aides he has fallen out with who already know too much and could be very damaging to him.

Kumekucha's view is that it may already be too late. The Kroll Report and the 3 other reports (which I am reliably informed are much more damaging) would never have had the revelations they do were there no disgruntled elements close to the Mois. To use movie and espionage jargon; these people know too much.

So is there a possibility that we will see a repeat of the Ouko saga where virtually all people linked to the former foreign minister's murder have died under very strange circumstances? Even former police commissioner Philip Kilonzo was poisoned in his own bar in his rural home. Others like the herds oy called Shikuku who discovered the remains and is said to have seen the government helicopter that dropped Dr Ouko's remains at Got Alila, near his Koru home, is claimed to have been injected with a fatal dose of mercury.

In this case of witnesses connected to Moi's looted wealth, such a scenario is highly unlikely and for several reasons. To start with Moi is no longer the president of Kenya. This is significant because to efficiently carry out murders and on the scale that they were done in the Ouko case, one would need official co-operation from the government security agencies that can only get involved in such a task by getting direct orders from the President.

Using private hit men for hire would only make the situation worse because it would cause all the targets (to use mafia terminology) to start singing like birds for their own protection and security.

Which leads us to the biggest mystery of all and a study into human nature and the character of the second richest man in Kenya (only his dad surpasses him). The most obvious solution to the whole impasse would be to pay the aggrieved parties the monies owed to them. And the Mois can easily afford it many times over. But alas, Gideon would rather squabble and physically fight it out at a Nairobi hotel with his former lawyer over a mere petty cash amount of $650,000. And all because he does not want to honor a fee note of $1.5 million part of which is still outstanding even after the lawyer has held his $650,000. Apparently that is what a lot of ill-gotten wealth does to the brain. And to make matters worse, the money does not even belong to Gideon or his father in the first place. It is in fact money looted from the people of Kenya.

Wonders will never cease.

Biwott Man In Kroll Report Who Was Used To Assassinate Ouko Murder Witnesses

What amazes me most as I continue to sift through the amazing Kroll Associates report is the assurance by impeccable sources that this report is the least damaging of the four available somewhere out there.
Biwott with Ouko

I get amazed because of the earth-shattering revelations contained in this report, which are too colossal to absorb in single seating or one reading. Hence my decision to digest it in bits and pieces for myself and for all you good folks out there. So I ask myself, what can possible be worse that this?

One example of what I am talking about here is the information on one Danny Vardi, who is listed as a close associate of Nicholas Biwott. The Kroll report says that this man, who is a Israeli national is a former military commander of the Israeli army and is related to Gad Zeevi through marriage. However the two greatly dislike one another greatly, according to the Kroll report.

But here comes the shocker; Vardi was allegedly used to assassinate numerous witnesses connected to the Ouko murder. And that's not all. Sources also told those who compiled the Kroll report that he was also instrumental in helping launch the tribal clashes of 1992. Vardi is named as an executive of Biwott's Ziba management services. I am not sure what this Biwott-owned company does but the Swahili word Ziba, means "to block" or "to cover". How ironical!

This is fascinating information that for the first time directly links Biwott and Moi to the land/ethnic clashes that rocked mostly the Rift Valley right on cue after the re-introduction of multi-party politics into the country and President Moi's chilly warning to ecstatic, celebrating Kenyans—"Hii multi party itawachoma." (This Multi Party will burn you).

The other interesting point to note is that to this day, Biwott's personal security consists almost exclusively of Israeli's who are reputed to be the best in the world in these matters. In fact Biwott is so particular about his personal security that for fear of poisoning, he will never accept to be served at any function and would rather go the source to serve himself. His favorite drink is said to be a cup of tea.

In the days of Jomo Kenyatta, Biwott was at one time a personal assistant to Bruce Mckenzie whom despite being an agriculture minister in Jomo Kenyatta's government was a known agent for the Isreali and British intelligence services. The way Mckenzie died is rather instructive in this respect. He was in an aircraft flying back from a visit to Kampala and Idi Amin when a gift that the then Ugandan president had presented to him, exploded in the small aircraft killing all onboard including MacKenzie.

The Vardi story proves what has been suspected all along that ethnic clashes in Kenya have always been instigated and the trail always leads back to former president Moi. Secondly it tells the sad story that with such a highly trained professionals at work, the Ouko witnesses who lost their lives had no chance, poor Kenyans.

Incidentally there is one other death related to the Ouko murder that is mentioned in the Kroll report. That of Mohamed Aslam former chief executive of Pan African Bank. Sources gave information to investigators compiling the Kroll report that Aslam had indicated that he was ready to give eveidence against Biwott and Moi at the Ouko enquiry. Aslam died two days before he was due to give evidence. The report says that Aslam's widow is convinced that her husband's poisoning was ordered by Biwott.

It also gets you thinking about the Mamlukis (Artur brothers) a mystery that has not been solved to this day.

The shock ruling by the High court confirming that the appointments of cabinet administrative secretaries (CAS) is illegal and contrary to the constitution has taken the Ruto camp by surprise.

Kroll Report Names Those Who Funded 1992 Ethnic Clashes

Also named as close associates of Biwott and former president Daniel arap Moi are Mohamed Bawazir and Rashid Sajjad. These are well known personalities from Mombasa and diehard Kanu supporters.

But the Kroll report reveals even more about these personalities. Bawazir is identified as a long time businessman who has for many years has been one of the largest importers of commodities into Kenya. The Kroll report identifies him as one of the most important bagmen for the first multi-party elections of 1992. This is significant because the kind of money used in those elections sunk Kenya into unprecedented levels of overnight inflation which experts say that the country may well never recover from. It is also a documented fact that the government was involved in a lot of printing of cash which ruined the economy and ended up being a death sentence to many Kenyans who suddenly woke up to the fact that their life savings were a fraction of the value they had been just a few months before. Historians are bound to emphasize, when the history of Kenya over this period is written, that the people struggled long and hard and mostly unsuccessfully to recover from the unprecedented printing of money that took place in 1992.

The report adds that Bawazir and Sajjad funded the ethnic clashes of 1992, where thousands of Kenyans lost their lives and hundreds of thousands were displaced from their homes. Limited press freedom at the time hid the truth from the world but when the story will finally be told, it will make Darfur look like child's play in comparison.

Gideon's Trip With His Father To Banks In Luxembourg

Kroll Report on Kenyan Corruption, Digest

Read previous article

Mukesh Gohil reveals that by 2002 Gideon Moi's cash in foreign banks amounted to a staggering 550 million British pounds. This is only the money that Gideon had involved him in to transact. It is reported that all Gideon's cash left the country through Citibank.

Mukesh insists that a huge amount of this money is in London.

The Kroll report details a fascinating trip that took place towards the end of former president Moi's last term as president where he visited several banks in Luxembourg in an unmarked ordinary car and without any security or escort. Only one State house aide (who was chief of protocal at the time) accompanied them. And even he was left in waiting rooms as father and son had meetings with their bankers behind closed doors. But it was very clear that the purpose of this trip was to introduce the younger Moi to his bankers.

It is believed that during this trip administration of the Moi fortunes was transferred to Gideon. Investigators are still trying to prove that the monies were transferred around the world in a further effort to make it as diffucult as possible for it to be traced back to the Mois.

Incidentally there is plenty of instances in the Kroll Associates report that suggests that the Mois are not too comfortable at the moment as there are too many people running around with their secrets.

A fight that took place at a popular entertainment spot in Nairobi between Gideon Moi and the family lawyer Dr Kiplagat, emphasizes this. Evidence seems to suggest that the fight was instigated by the sale of US$ 650,000 property in South Africa which Dr Kiplagat facilitated in behalf of the younger Moi. After the sale was complete the lawyer did not hand over the proceeds from the sale but instead prepared an invoice for $US 1.5 million for various legal services rendered to Gideon over a lengthy period of time that was still outstanding. He then issued a credit note for US$650,000 and demanded that the balance owed to him be paid. Gideon was furious.

Interestingly this appears to be a contradiction of his own well-voiced principals. The same Kroll report talks about a frequent boast Gideon makes to the effect that any deals worth less than US$ 1 million is not worth his while.

Since December 2003, Gideon has been trying to get the money from the sale of the South African property from Kiplagat, but with no success. On several occasions he sent Chepkonga to demand the cash on his behalf from the lawyer. So when Chepkonga saw the lawyers car parked outside Fairview Hotel, he immeditaley called Gideon who quickly arrived and headed straight to the table where Dr Kiplagat was seated. A fierce argument ensued with Gideon making his usual threats.

Eyewitnesses said that what triggered the fight was the point where Kiplagat told Gideon; "…your father is no longer the president of this country and the days you used to order people around are long gone." To add insult to injury he then ordered Gideon to move to another table. That is when fists and kicks started flying as baffled onlookers watched and other hurried to separate the two men.

It seems that many previously close aides have fallen out with the Moi's in recent times over similar circumstances and others have just moved on sensing that it isn't that profitable to hang around anymore.
