The party nominations expected mess is unraveling in both the Raila and Ruto camps.
Two UDA aspirants expressed fears of interference from the government and powerful party forces. Aspirant for Kilgoris constituency, Joel Ole Tasur, said some powerful individuals are planning to influence elections in favour of their opponents against the wishes of the people.
Then Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno has claimed that the provincial administration and top party brass in the county planned to withhold police officers from polling and tallying centres. The second-term MP is facing businessman David Keter in the primaries.
He alleged favouritism of his opponent by the party’s powerful people He said they are using the provincial administration to make sure he is defeated.
On the Raila side, the much-awaited ODM nominations in the county of Siaya were delayed for hours after the electronic gadgets used to conduct the exercise failed to work allegedly as a result of network failure.
Some supporters of the Orange party who had turned up for the exercise as early as 6 am on Wednesday were forced to spend hours at various polling stations waiting for the gadgets to work.
And in an exercise expected to send a signal of the resolve by the region to end voter apathy, a low turnout was registered in almost all the polling stations.
