Even before going into the latest information I have of a serious crisis brewing deep inside William Ruto's UDA and the Kenya Kwanza alliance, all the signs form a pattern that clearly suggests all is not well.
It is no secret that Deputy President William Ruto is walking a tight rope ahead of the 2022 General Election, with some of his close allies dumping the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at an hour of desperate need.
Several political leaders who pioneered UDA have since quit, alleging that the DP plans to rig them out in the party primaries after bringing in new allies, who have all along been supporting the government before switching camps.
Those who have defected from UDA, include Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Malava MP Malulu Injendi, and his Hamisi counterpart, Charles Gemosi.
Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici has even described the DP as a wolf in sheep’s skin, claiming that he is a “hypocrite” and “dictator”.
She alleges that after Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru crossed over, the UDA party leader called her and tried to persuade her to drop her gubernatorial bid in favour of the incumbent.
And all this is just a tip of the iceberg. Will UDA survive it all, weather the storm and emerge stronger? Or will the new party with big dreams continue to crumble like a house of cards?
